You, your sister, Daddy and I were getting settled in to our new life and crazy routine. Things would never be the same for any of us, and we were excited about the future together. You delighted all of us, and we couldn't get enough of your cute face and tiny features! Your growth was evident every single day, and I cried when I had to put away some of your preemie clothes.
Rather than make this BLOG too terribly lengthy and detailed that it will make my grandchildren groan during Family Night, I have decided to only select a few of my very favorite photos from the 6 months which finished out the year 2006. (Tell the grandkids that they can thank me later!)
One Sunday afternoon, we were eating dinner after church and you were in your buzzy / bouncy chair doing what you did best: SLEEPING. Suddenly, Alexa jumped up and with the camera caught this photo of you. She said that you looked like you were a little Tiger ready to 'pounce'. I couldn't help but agree:
Pioneer Day 2006: Utah has a state holiday on July 24th to honor the men, women and children who entered the Salt Lake Valley to further the work of the Lord. The Park City Stake has an annual barbecue at the Kilby Road Chapel pavilion to celebrate and honor them. This was one of your first outings in public and I remember your father being very concerned and protective of you. Aunt Shelley came along too and these are her arms holding you. (Don't worry, we'll get to photos of the two of you later on where you will see more than just her appendages.) Not sure exactly why you were being so snobbish and sticking out your tongue... but notice that you are wearing your first Tiger golf shirt and cap! (Be sure to explain to my grandkids who Tiger Woods is, so they get the whole golf thing...)
We didn't take you to church until the end of July because we feared that you would pick up germs which would make you very sick. Here you are, all decked out in a darling Sunday outfit my friend Patrice gave to you headed for your first Sunday in the Park City Kimball Ward:
Not quite sure what you were doing when I snapped this photo, perhaps a little lower abdominal pushing? Your eyes were sure big! Just had to get it in there so the grandkids get a good laugh!
Blessing Day: Sunday, August 6th, 2006 was a very important and special day for you. Daddy was able to take you to the front of the chapel and while being supported by both of your grandfathers, uncles and good friends, he officially performed an ordinance to give you your name and a father's blessing. Most of the Wilkinson Family, just missing Janie, Brenna, Corey, Shelby and Alexa. Aw.......
Officially Named Now: Weston Stewart Wilkinson On the Road Again:
Bear Lake. Here we went again, taking a tiny little baby on a road trip! I believe that because you traveled a lot in the first 18 months of your life, you became most agreeable with it. (The majority of tw0-year-olds wouldn't be very pleasant on a 10 hour road trip, but you did great going to and from Lake Tahoe during th e summer of '08... but we'll get to those photos later.) Anyway... the nice lady who sewed your crib set has a nice husband who has been Daddy's friend for like a million years, and they invited our little family to their home at Bear Lake for a weekend. How NICE! Here is your proud Daddy holding you with the beautiful but chilly Bear Lake in the background.
Handsome Daddy! I selected this photo of Daddy giving you a bath in the kitchen sink for two reasons: first because I wanted you to see how beautiful his blue eyes look with that blue shirt he has on and secondly so you could see the plant behind you. This plant started out much like you did... VERY small. Chances are by the time you read this blog, it will still be with us. It just keeps growing and growing just like you do, and it is getting very BIG!
Before you could run away from us, Daddy and I used to read books to you every single night before we put you to bed. This is a photo of you which Daddy took right after you had heard your stories. Little did I realize that all of the little cute things on the table behind us would soon be picked up, dropped, squished, drooled on, lost and some sadly broken as soon as you could walk and reach them! But at least for a while, I could enjoy the photos, clock, stuffed rabbit and lamp on the little table.
The Ranch. Oh, Weston... The Ranch. I don't think you will ever know The Ranch as I did when I was a child. My Grandfather Stewart (for whom you are named after) and his brothers found and purchased a little run down ranch in the beautiful mountains outside of Montpelier, Idaho when I was an infant. It was named: Stewart's Crow Creek Ranch. Over the years as I grew up, my cousins and I spent beautiful summers there getting into all sorts of mischief and learning how to work. Papa and his brothers invested much time and effort into the property which now has 4 homes, two mobile home trailers, two cook shacks, a large man made lake with trout, a barn and a corral.
Now that my grandfather and many of his brothers have died, the Ranch is slowly but surely becoming a place which our small but loving family will probably have to stop going to. :( Maybe not... maybe we will get lucky and be able to keep going there after Pop & Gram pass away, but we'll have to wait and see. ANYWAY... here are photos of you over Labor Day weekend as you looked at your first live horse, followed by a cute photo of you with your head on Daddy's shoulder inside the little home we stay in when we are at the Ranch. **sigh** How I wish you could have the exact same experiences there as I did as a child.
Your First HALLOWEEN!
Okay, so your first Halloween was a really big deal to me. It had to be special, like your first Christmas and first birthday were going to be. Of COURSE you were a TIGER... and your costume was lovingly made by the same nice lady who made your crib set and had us to her home at Bear Lake: Barb Nelson. My sweet friend, Natalie Thurman came to our home and took a lot of photos of you in some cute Halloween themed outfits, and on the actual evening, we took you to Pop & Gram's, Aunt Robyn & Uncle Dave's as well as Uncle Wade & Aunt Ali's homes:
